The Apex Center closes for annual cleaning and maintenance Aug. 18 through 21, reopening at 5 am on Aug. 22. Apex pools will close August 18 through September 6, reopening on Sun., September 7; this extended closure period is needed in order to resurface all the pools.
During shutdown, Apex annual pass holders, SilverSneakers participants and 20-punch card holders have free use of the cardio/weight equipment at the Racquetball and Fitness Center, 12120 W. 64th Avenue. That same group can also visit drop-in fitness classes at the Community Recreation Center, 6842 Wadsworth Boulevard, or the new cardio/weight room at CRC, open Mon-Thu. from 8:30 am to 2 pm and 4-6 pm; and Friday, 9:30 am-2 pm.
Here are options for Apex annual pass holders, SilverSneakers participants and 20-punch card holders who like to swim:
• Meyers indoor pool, 7900 Carr Drive: Lap/public swimming and aquacise are free with your card from August 18 through September 6.
Hours from August 18 to August 31: Lap swimming weekdays, 5:30 am to 12:30 pm and 6-7 pm; Lap/public swimming weekdays 7 to 9 pm and Sat., 1-5 pm; aquacise Mon., Wed. & Fri. 9:30-10:30 am.
Hours starting September 1: Lap swimming weekdays 5:30 am-9 am; Lap/public swimming weekdays 7-9 pm and Sat., 1-5 pm; aquacise 8-9 am Mon., Wed. & Fri.
• Secrest outdoor pool, 6820 W. 66th Avenue: From August 18 through September 5, with card for lap/public swimming and aquacise are free with your card. Hours:
7-8 am, lap swim (6 lanes)
8-9 am, lap swim (2 lanes), aquacise (4 lanes)
9 am-noon, group/open/lap swim (1 lane available for lap swim)
3:30-5 pm, open swim
5-6 pm Tue. & Thu, lap swim
Saturday & Sunday: 9-11 am, lap swim (6 lanes); 11 am-5 pm, open swim
Sat., Sept. 6 – Annual Dog Swim, 11 am to 2 pm - $5 per dog, humans free
