Five candidates vie for two seats on board of directors

On Tuesday, May 6, eligible voters in Apex Park and Recreation District (formerly North Jeffco Park and Recreation District) will have the opportunity to elect two directors to four-year terms on the board. Five citizens have announced their candidacy: Michael J. Chadwick, Jack Monroe, Lee Humrich, Jeff Glenn and Vincent Davis.

The two departing board members are President Bob Loveridge, who is leaving due to term limitations, and Vice President John “Kibby” McKibbon.

This five-member board serves its electorate by guiding the present and future of community recreation. This activity is an essential element of the community’s quality of life and the district encourages voters to learn about the candidates and make an informed choice on May 6.

Voters will also decide whether to increase the term limitations of board members from the current two terms to three terms. This issue is question A on the ballot.

Polling places are open on the 6th from 7 am to 7 pm at the Apex Center, 13150 W. 72nd Avenue, and the Community Recreation Center, 6842 Wadsworth Boulevard. For more information, call Luann Levine, Designated Election Official, 303-403-2518, or email luannl@apexprd.org.

Board of Director Candidates Background and Viewpoints

Candidate emails are listed below each person’s information.

Mike Chadwick

Family/Biographical Info:

Wife Jo, 3 daughters, Jori (13), Elise (12), and Makaila (9). Colorado native, and resident of Arvada since 1991.

Occupation/Interests/Community Service:

Zoning Administrator, Jefferson County

As with most of us that have made Colorado Front Range our homes, the Chadwick Family enjoys the bountiful active and passive recreation opportunities that are available in our City and State. Although countless hours of our time is spent between Arvada Girls Softball practices and games, the warm weather often finds Jo and I enjoying the beauty of our State from the vantage point of our Harley Davidson Road King.

As our children have grown I have been involved in their organized sports endeavors, from swimming, to volleyball, and I have been a coach for both Arvada Girls Soccer, and Arvada Girls Softball. I am currently the Vice-President of the Arvada Girls Softball Association.

Goals as a Board member if elected:

Being a Land Use professional and a long time resident of the Rocky Mountain Front Range, I am very familiar with the implications of the population growth that we have seen in our community. The challenges facing the Apex Park and Recreation District (North Jeffco) and other Public entities are to balance the efforts of providing the quality of life recreation opportunities we enjoy, with the ever-constant fiscal pressures all must wrestle.

As a member of the Apex Board of Directors I would seek to enhance the recreational opportunities that the District provides, and to improve the quality of the facilities already in the inventory. Such improvements would include drainage improvements and paving of the parking areas for the Lutz and Stenger complexes.

Lee Humrich

Family/biographical info:

Married to Judy, 4 children and 12 grandchildren. Resident of Arvada for 38 years.

Occupation/interests/Community Service:

Owner of Trust Hall Insurance Services in Arvada, a firm with 13 dedicated employees serving many loyal clients. Past chair of the Arvada Chamber of Commerce, the West Chamber of Commerce and the Jefferson County Business Lobby. Past president of Professional Insurance Agents of Colorado. Board member, National Computer Company.

Goals as a Board member if elected:

I will put my leadership and experience to work to improve the great asset that Apex Park and Recreation District is to the families here in the district. I will also work to build consensus with fellow board members and staff; communicate with and develop a good working relationship with the City of Arvada; maintain and modernize our current facilities; develop a budget and a plan of action for building the new Garrison facility; and represent the district with hard work and integrity.

Jeffrey Glenn

Family/biographical info:

Age 42, married to Amy, two children ages 12 and 14. Native of Arvada.

Occupation/Interests/Community Service:

Career in home furnishings and real estate.

Goals as a Board member if elected:

I am currently in my second year as President of Arvada Midget Football. I have spent the last several years working with the North Jeffco sports staff and have acquired a general understanding of how the district operates, the personalities involved and their relationship with the city. The reason I am running is to continue the great work that the current board has done and help meet the needs of the growing district.

Being involved with AMFA shows my ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals and drive them to a common goal. Football has given me the opportunity to become closer to the community and not only better understand the needs of the residents, but also that of the employees of North Jeffco Parks and Recreation District.

My involvement has not been limited to football. My family has been actively involved in baseball, basketball and softball for over 30 years. Outside of sports organizations, I am also involved as a volunteer with the Arthritis Foundation; an organization dear to my heart.

I hope to bring some new ideas to drive the continued profitability for the next four years and beyond. In order to continue to meet the needs of all the users, this new board will be facing many challenges. My goal is to ensure that citizens of all ages are represented and that their needs are met. From pee-wees to seniors, I will listen and respond to the needs to the best of my ability.

Occupation/Interests/Community Service:

Retired letter carrier (33 years in Denver). Enjoys golf, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Active volunteer with the Community Recreation Center as a driver, special event volunteer and member of the Senior Council.

While working as a letter carrier, I served on the local executive board for 10 years. Trustee for 6 years and Treasurer for 4 years. I was instrumental in starting the annual postal carrier food drive. For 10 years, I was the union representative in an area that involved daily interaction with management, which taught me how to deal with people with different points of view.

Goals as a Board member if elected:

My goal is to continue working on the projects now in progress, mainly the Garrison Street Center. I look forward to working with the board, being visible in the community by attending various functions and events and listening to the citizens to make sure we are addressing their recreational needs.
